The Barco Mercantel is a cargo boat that is still used on the Ria de Aveiro. It?s used to carry sand, mud to shape the saltpans, rushes and salt. The Mercantel differs from the Moliceiro boat especially with regard to its size ? it is larger. The decoration of the Mercantel Boat is simple, and has sober paintings and small signs on the prow and stern.
