Igreja Matriz de Vagos

Vagos

Presentation
This chapel was dedicated to the apostle S. Tiago-maior. The arch of the Chapel dates back to the 17th century, in decadent Renaissance style and has pilasters, cherubs and a coat of arms that the gilded woodcarving partly conceals.

Specific characteristics

This used to be the private chapel of the Cardoso family. There is a stone plaque where one can read: "King D. Afonso V gave this church to the monastery of S. Marcos, to whom he is united perpetually in spirit and temporality. In 1452".
