Continuing the family tradition, the current generation decided to regroup the vineyards of great-grandfather José Francisco Prior, who in his time sold all his wine in taverns in Coimbra.
Keeping the production small, not just to make a small number of bottles, but because it is a great pleasure to see each vine grow, follow each vine and the respective development of the grapes.
The main desire is that you can enjoy each glass of Prior Lucas wine according to your own experiences, environments and company, retaining it’s identity, personality and uniqueness that are at the base of the best we have to offer in the admirable world of wines.

A very characteristic mark of this region are the very fractioned properties. This fact has the historical context of our parents wanting their children to inherit a little of each plot, since each one of them contributes with the best of its micro-terroir to a greater balance in production.
At the moment, I cultivate about 5ha divided into 7 plots, some of old vines and others of very recent vines, where I have preserved the identity and character of traditional grape varieties such as Baga, Maria-Gomes and Bical, adding some contemporaneity with Tinta- Roriz, Syrah and Chardonnay.
At the end of the 19th century, my great-grandfather José Francisco Prior, was a small winemaker from the parish of Souselas who sold his 20,000 liters of wine in the bohemian taverns of Coimbra City.
Over the years, the properties were divided between children and grandchildren, and the wine business was lost.
Over the last decade, my father, José Prior Lucas, has been regrouping the plots that belonged to his great-grandfather, producing wine that he shared at the table with family and friends. Following this feeling, I decided to extend the sharing, betting on a small wine production, not just to make a small number of bottles, but because it is a great pleasure to see each vine grow, accompany each vine and the respective development of the grapes, defining and imagining the wine that will come into each bottle. It's a wonderful process.
I want you to appreciate and enjoy each glass of Prior Lucas Wine according to your experiences, environments and company, retaining its identity and oneness.
