At Praia da Vagueira we still see, nowadays, the art of traditional coastal net-fishing, known as Arte Xávega, dating back to the 19th century.

Particularities
By boat, the fishermen cast their nets to sea and fence in schools of fish. Afterwards, they haul in the net to shore with the help of an oxteam. Once done, the men and women, hastily work together to spread out the net on the sand and separate all the fish that insist on returning to sea.
