This museum, under the guardianship of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Anadia, is integrated in the Palace where José Luciano de Castro (1834-1914), chief of the progressive party and notable statesman of the liberal monarchy, lived.

The Palace was built in 1860 by his father-in-law, Alexandre Ferreira de Seabra (1818-1891), lawyer and author of the first Portuguese Civil Procedure Code.
