The Mercado Municipal Manuel Firmino was constructed at the end of the 19th century, as an iron structure architecture, bought second-hand in Porto, and was erected in the area occupied by the Armazéns de Aveiro (a large general textiles store) that was later demolished, when the central avenue: Avenida Dr. Lourenço Peixinho was opened. To replace it, a market was built, popularly known as praça (market).
