The contemporary style of the Pólo II (University Campus II), conceived by the architects Camillo Cortesão and Mercês Vieira, is an essential focal point of the city?s landscape. In 2000 it was awarded the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture by the Mies Van der Rohe Foundation.
