Born in 1897, António grew up in a family with a strong connection to culture. However, in 1918, the Fragoso family faced an unimaginable pain: three of their children died suddenly and simultaneously in one week, victims of an epidemic that ravaged the region.

The grief was so profound that, according to local stories, the children's coffins were carried out through the window so that the only surviving child would not realize what had happened, such was the family's despair.

Despite his immense musical promise, António also passed away prematurely in October 1918, at the age of 21.

The tragedy, combined with his early death, left the Fragoso family in mourning, but the composer's legacy endures to this day, celebrating his art and the strength of his family.
