Casa de António Lima Fragoso

Cantanhede
Presentation

This imposing building with a rectangular plan and two floors was the house of António Lima Fragoso.
António Lima Fragoso was the son of Viriato Sá Fragoso and Maria Isabel de Sá Lima Fragoso, and was born on the 17th June, 1897, in Pocariça

Observations

His precocious vocation for music was evident as early as when he was six years old when he began to learn to read music and play the piano with António dos Santos Tovim, his uncle and physician, in Cantanhede.
At sixteen he published and gave the first performance of his first composition Toadas da Minha Aldeia. In 1918 he obtained his Degree in Piano from the National Conservatory of Music with 20 points - the highest possible mark. From then on he began an artistic life which was widely recognized in the cultural circles of the country, not only as a pianist but also as a composer.
The literary work he bequeathed to us also bears witness to the cultural value of António Lima Fragoso, as well as to the love and consideration that he nurtured for his birthplace, where he would later die.
