History
The history of the Casa Municipal da Cultura is closely tied to the cultural development of Coimbra.
In 1927, the manuscript section of the Municipal Library was created with the aim of preserving valuable documents.
In 1977, due to the growth of the collection, the archive was transferred to the Torre de Almedina, the former medieval tower, and in 1978, it was inaugurated as the Municipal Historical Archive.
Today, the Casa da Cultura represents the continuation of Coimbra’s commitment to the preservation and promotion of its cultural heritage.
